The Sales Director is responsible for public school, private school as well as channel sales. This is a leadership role directly involved in selling and developing a high-performance sales team. The Sales Director is also responsible for Trade Shows and State/District Contracts.  The Sales Director provides strategic leadership by working with the senior management team to establish long-range goals, strategies, and plans.

 

Job Duties                   

  • Develop and execute sales strategy and plan to achieve targeted unit and revenue objectives.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor group expectations, including compensation plan and staffing to ensure proper planning and efficient operation of group.
  • Hire, train, motivate, evaluate, and manage staff to ensure employees receive mentoring, training and resources to accomplish plans.
  • Lead sales team to achieve or exceed monthly, quarterly, and annual sales quotas.
  • Manage Curriculum Adoptions and Tradeshows teams.
  • Set and manage expectations for the sales teams around individual and team goals, plans, pipeline creation, pipeline reporting and activity reporting.
  • Grow revenue from existing customers by expanding use, adding products or leveraging relationships to add grades, schools or district-wide programs.
  • Provide leadership, guidance, and support to sales managers in an overall sales capacity and performance management.
  • Define sales processes with National Sales Managers to ensure all sales activities (follow up, cold calls, lead qualification, etc.) are entered in the CRM.
  • Motivate, review and monitor revenue, sales performance, and sales activity to ensure achievement of activity goals leading to the attainment of sales quotas.
  • Prepare and socialize accurate sales activity reporting, including monthly and quarterly pipelines, weekly sales activity and pipeline development, and sales metrics.
  • Lead sales meetings, trainings, and reviews.
  • Partner with Marketing group to align marketing initiatives and leads with sales activity.
  • Develop and facilitate sales strategy for curriculum adoption states. Collaborate with Marketing group on marketing strategy to align with sales strategy.
  • Develop strategies to maximize trade shows; travel to trade shows, workshops, and adoption presentations, as needed.
  • Ensure curriculum adoptions are carried out, from conception to completion.
  • Recommend product or service enhancements to improve customer satisfaction and sales potential.

Required Education/Skills

           

  • B.A. or B.S. in Sales or related experience.
  • 8+ years related experience in product marketing and sales.
  • 5+ years of new business/hunter sales experience in education.
    • 5+ years of sales management experience selling both a physical and online product into the education market.
    • Sales leadership experience delivering high growth with both transactional and relationship sales processes.
  • Experience in new business development with a consistent track record of new business wins.
  • Ability to build and manage a robust and balanced pipeline.
  • Strong demonstration and presentation skills. 
  • Excellent analytical skills.
  • Ability to coach employees to enhance their skills and performance and help them develop their careers.
  • Ability to inspire and guide a team and customers.
  • Proficient with CRM tools (Sugar CRM, Salesforce.com, etc.), web-based presentation tools (GoToMeeting, WebEx, etc.) and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to travel 25% - 40% of working time.
